Steering alignment
Steering alignment is a wheel geometry adjustment service that measures and adjusts wheel angles on cars and vans with steering or tyre-wear faults. AutoPop adjusts tie-rods, camber and caster settings and checks steering geometry after measurement across Wednesbury and the West Midlands.

What is steering alignment?
Steering alignment adjusts wheel angles so the wheels point in the correct direction. We check toe, camber and caster and inspect tie-rods, ball joints and the steering rack.
We use a computerised alignment rack and laser sensors.
When is steering alignment needed?
Steering alignment assessment addresses pulling to one side, vibration, an off-centre steering wheel and uneven tyre-edge wear. We inspect vehicles after pothole or kerb impacts.
Worn suspension components and impact damage form part of the assessment.
What does steering alignment involve?
Steering alignment involves vehicle assessment, preparation, measurement, adjustment and final checks.
Assessment and preparation
We record make, model, registration and mileage and perform a road-force test.
We inspect steering linkages, check tyre pressure and remove accessories that obstruct the work.
Measurement and adjustment
We measure current wheel angles and identify components needing adjustment. We adjust tie-rods, camber plates and caster settings on the alignment rack until target values are reached.
Verification and handover
The alignment rack remeasures angles against manufacturer specifications.
We test-drive the vehicle, check residual pull and provide a report.
Types of steering alignment
Steering alignment covers two-wheel, four-wheel and thrust-angle work according to the assessed vehicle.
Two-wheel alignment
Two-wheel alignment adjusts the front wheels and suits most passenger cars.
Four-wheel alignment
Four-wheel alignment adjusts front and rear wheels and is required for vehicles with rear steering or adjustable rear suspension.
Thrust-angle alignment
Thrust-angle alignment aligns the rear axle with the front steering axis on trucks and larger vans.
What components does steering alignment cover?
Steering alignment covers wheel hubs, tie-rods, ball joints, steering rack, camber plates and related suspension links.
What are the benefits of steering alignment?
Steering alignment corrects wheel-angle errors that cause uneven wear and steering pull. Worn parts require separate replacement where inspection finds wear beyond safe limits.
Alignment improves handling and safety and reduces fuel consumption. Continued misalignment reduces tyre life and compromises handling.
Repair or replacement: which is appropriate?
Steering component replacement is recommended when wear on tie-rods, ball joints or the steering rack exceeds safe limits. Otherwise, adjustment addresses the measured geometry error.
What affects steering alignment cost?
Steering alignment cost depends on vehicle type, alignment complexity and parts replacement.
The existing typical UK range is £50 to £120.
The written estimate after inspection sets the price.
How long does steering alignment take?
Steering alignment takes about 45 minutes for a standard appointment. Severe damage or parts replacement extends the work.
Steering alignment aftercare
Steering alignment aftercare covers tyre pressure, steering feel and follow-up assessment if symptoms return.
Alignment checks are described after an impact, when tyres wear unevenly and at least once a year.
